Discography

Donald has released two albums and over the years has been featured on a number of others. Here are ones that are still easily available.

Land of my Youth, originally released in the 1970s, was one of the first albums to feature Highland bagpipes in a folk music ensemble. Featuring Mark Cushing and Donald on a variety of pipes, whistles and stringed instruments and Alannah Fitzgerald on vocals and bodhran and Tom Gibson on percussion, this album is still a best seller. Available on Bandcamp. Download the liner notes below.

Waters of the North Esk – In this solo album, Donald revisits his family roots in NE Scotland and his piping roots with the Bobs of Balmoral. A mix of traditional and contemporary tunes, it features backup by Ian MacHarg (pipes, whistles), Dan Houghton (guitar, bouzouki), Jackie Lewis (Celtic harp) and Thomas Leigh (hand drum). Available on Bandcamp Download the liner notes below.

King’s Court and Celtic Fair – The Empire Brass is one of North America’s finest brass quintets, renowned for its virtuosity and the diversity of its repertoire. Donald is featured on this Empire Brass Quintet release along with Alannah Fitzgerald (vocals) and Gordon Bell (pipe band drumming). This enchanting blend of brass and piping has a uniquely medieval feel. This album can be heard on Spotify.
